Kingstown (Our Sports) – After losing by 1 run against South Africa, Nepal has been eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup. In the first match against South Africa, Nepal was defeated by a narrow margin of 1 run and exited from the World Cup.
Chasing the medium target of 116 runs given by South Africa, Nepal managed to score only 114 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
In the last two overs, Nepal needed 16 runs to win. In the second ball of the 19th over, Enrique Nortje bowled Kushal Malla for 1 run. Sompal Kami hit a six on the fifth ball. After he hit two runs in the last ball, 8 runs were required in the last over.
In the first second ball of the last over, Bartman hit a dot ball to Gulshan. Gulshan hit a four on the third ball. He took two runs in the fourth ball. The fifth ball was a dot ball.
Gulshan could not play any shot as he needed 2 runs for victory in the last ball. While taking a run in the bye, he was run out and Nepal was defeated.
Both the openers of Nepal got off to a good start. But in the eighth over of Tabrez Shamshi, Nepal lost two important wickets. In the second ball of that over, Kushal Bhurtel was bowled while playing a reverse sweep. He scored 13 runs off 21 balls. In the fourth ball, Shamshi made captain Rohit Paudel bowled for zero.
For the fourth wicket, opener Ashif Sheikh and Anil Shah shared a partnership of 50 runs. South African captain Aiden Markram broke that partnership in the 14th over. As the third wicket, Anil Balam was caught out after scoring 27 runs with 3 fours and 1 six.
For South Africa, Shamshi took 4 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs. Markram took 1 wicket for 8 runs in 2 overs.
Before that, Nepal stopped South Africa by a moderate total in the ICC T20 World Cup with an excellent bowling performance in St. Vincent's Kingstown. After losing the toss and batting first, South Africa made 115 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
Nepal kept South Africa under pressure by using four spinners due to the aid for spin on the pitch. The spinners took all 6 wickets for Nepal, who put pressure on the run rate from the start. Kushal Bhurtel took 4 wickets out of 6 and Dipendra Singh Airi took 3 wickets.
Captain Rohit Kumar Paudel started with spin in the second over by bringing Dipendra Singh Airey into the bowling attack. In the fourth over, Dipendra cut and bowled Quinton de Kock and gave Nepal the first success. De Kock scored 10 runs in 11 balls.
Nepal had to wait for the 12th over for the second wicket. But Nepal was constantly making pressure.
Kushal Bhurtel took the second wicket for Nepal. South African captain Aiden Markram scored 15 runs off 22 balls and was bowled with an inside edge.
In the 14th over, Kushal gave Nepal their third success. Henrik Klaasen was caught out by Karan Casey for 3 runs off 5 balls.
In the 16th over, Dipendra took the fourth wicket for Nepal. He cut and bowled Riza Hendricks, the opening batsman who was stuck at the crease. Hendricks scored 43 runs off 49 balls hitting 5 fours and 1 six.
Dipendra also dismissed David Miller, known for his explosive batting, in the last over. In the third ball of the 18th over, when Miller scored 7 runs in 10 balls, Sandeep Lamichhane was caught out.
In the last over, Kushal Bhurtel caught Marco Yanson at long-on when he scored 1 run. He stumped Kagisho Rabada in the last ball.
For Nepal, Kushal Bhurtel took 4 wickets with 19 runs in 4 overs. Dipendra took 3 wickets with only 21 runs in 4 overs.
Sandeep Lamichhane remained wicketless in 4 overs but gave only 18 runs. Avinash Bohora gave only 19 runs in 3 overs. Kushal Malle conceded 17 runs in 2 overs. Karan KC, who bowled only one over, spent 9 runs. Sompal Kami conceded 6 runs including 1 maiden in 2 overs.
