Sandeep found innocent; proved by high court

                             

Patan High Court has overturned the conviction of cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane by District Court Kathmandu for the crime of rape.

Deputy Registrar and Spokesperson of the High Court, Bimal Parajuli informed that on Wednesday, the bench of Judges Sudarshandev Bhatt and Anju Upreti Dhakal overturned the decision of the District Court and acquitted Sandeep Lamichhane.

"The verdict of the district court has been overturned, Sandeep Lamichhane has been acquitted," he said. The full text of this judgment is yet to come.

On Poush 13, District Court Kathmandu Judge Shishir Dhakal found Lamichhane guilty in the rape case.

On Poush 25, same bench also ordered him to be imprisoned for 8 years, a fine of three lakh rupees and to pay compensation of two lakh rupees to the victim.

But the District Court gave a lesser sentence to Lamichhane and the High Public Prosecutor's Office filed an appeal in the High Court Patan on Tuesday, Falgun 29th.

Before that, Sandeep Lamichhane had also filed an appeal in Patan High Court against the district court's conviction in the rape case.
