India has won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title.
India won the T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the final in Barbados. Chasing the target of 177 runs given by India, South Africa could only score 169 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs.
This is India's second T20 World Cup title. Since winning the first edition in 2007, India had not won the title. Similarly, India has ended the drought of 11 years of ICC titles.
In the last over, 16 runs were needed for victory. But David Miller was out on the first ball. Surya Kumar Yadav showed him the way to the pavilion by making a fine catch on the long off boundary.
Kagiso Rabada hits a four off the second ball. 1 bye came in the third ball. Keshav Maharaj took 1 run in the fourth ball. Then Hardik Pandya bowled a wide. Needing 9 runs off 2 balls, Rabada got out in the fifth ball. After that wicket, the game went away from South Africa.
South Africa did not start well. In Jasprit Bumrah's second over, opener Riza Hendricks was bowled after scoring 4 runs. In the third over, captain Aidan Markram scored 4 runs and became the victim of Arshdeep Singh. Akshar Patel took the third wicket after a partnership of 58 runs. He bowled Tristan Stubbs in the ninth over. Stubbs scored 31 runs off 21 balls with 3 fours and 1 six. As the fourth wicket, Quinton de Kock scored 39 runs off 31 balls and got out in the 13th over. He was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh. Klassen scored 52 runs in 27 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes and went to the pavilion on the first ball of the 17th over. In the 18th over, Bumrah bowled Marko Janson when he scored 2 runs.
Hardik Pandya took 3 wickets for India. Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets. Akshar Patel got 1 wicket.
Before that India decided to bat first after winning the toss and scored 176 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. For India, Virat Kohli scored 76 runs off 59 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. After the first 3 wickets went cheaply, he managed the innings and played a good innings. India lost the first two wickets in the second over of the innings. In the second over, left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj was bowled by South Africa. In that over, he sent India's in-form captain Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant back to the pavilion. While Rohit scored 9 runs in 5 balls, Rishabh was dismissed for zero. Suryakumar fell victim to Rabada in the fifth over. He was caught out at short ball by Henrik Klaasen for 3 runs. Virat and Akshar Patel shared a partnership of 72 runs for the fourth wicket. That partnership was broken when Akshar was run out in the 14th over. Akshar scored 47 off 31 balls with 1 four and 4 sixes and was run out by Quinton de Kock. Kohli became the victim of Marco Janson as the fifth wicket. Shivam Dubey scored 27 runs off 16 balls and got out on the fourth ball of the last over. Ravindra Jadeja also got out on the last ball of the innings after scoring 2 runs. Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten on 5 runs.
For South Africa, Keshav Maharaj took 2 wickets for 23 runs in 3 overs. Similarly, Enrique Nortje also took 2 wickets by giving 26 runs in 4 overs. 1-1 wickets remained in the name of Marco Jansson and Kagiso Rabada.
Virat Kohli became the Player of the Match(POTM) due to his outstanding batting performance under pressure situation that helped India to give the fightable target and they win the game successfully with this target. He scored 76 runs in 59 deliveries including 6 boundaries and 2 sixes.
